Self-Employed and 1099 Tax Returns in Clearwater
When you work for yourself, no one withholds tax for you, and every missed receipt costs you money. Iris meets you at home or at the shop, sorts your income and expenses, and prepares your Schedule C so you pay what you owe and not a dollar more. Call 678-614-4636.

Where self-employed people lose money
- Mileage. Business miles are often the biggest deduction for drivers and tradespeople, but only with a log. Iris helps you rebuild one from calendars, apps and invoices when it's missing.
- Self-employment tax. You pay both halves of Social Security and Medicare on your net earnings. Half of it is deductible, and Iris makes sure it's taken.
- Qualified business income deduction. Many sole proprietors can deduct up to 20 percent of qualified business income. It's easy to miss on a do-it-yourself return.
- Home office. If part of your home is used regularly and only for business, you may deduct it, using either the simplified method or actual expenses.
- Health insurance and retirement. Self-employed health insurance premiums and contributions to a SEP-IRA or solo 401(k) can lower your tax.
- Payment app income. Payments through apps and marketplaces may come with a Form 1099-K. Iris separates real business income from personal transfers so you aren't taxed twice.
A typical example
An illustrative example, not a client testimonial. A Dunedin pressure-washing contractor has a 1099-NEC from a property manager, a 1099-K from a payment app and a glove box full of gas receipts. Iris meets him at home after work. Using his phone calendar and invoices, she rebuilds a mileage log for the year, separates personal payment-app transfers from business income, and finds the equipment he bought in May. The return shows a smaller profit than he feared, and she gives him four estimated payment dates and amounts so next April is calm.
Quarterly estimated taxes
Without an employer withholding tax, the IRS expects payments four times a year. Missing them brings an underpayment penalty even if you pay in full in April. Iris calculates your estimates when she prepares your return and gives you the dates and amounts. If you'd like help during the year, see our full tax preparation services or ask about planning check-ins.
How the appointment works
- Call 678-614-4636 and tell Iris what kind of return you have. She'll tell you what to gather and quote the price.
- Iris comes to your home or business, reviews your documents with you and asks about anything that changed this year.
- She prepares the return, walks you through the result, and e-files after you approve and sign. You keep a copy.
What it costs
Self-employed returns are quoted after a short phone call, based on how organized your records are and how many income sources you have. Quotes start at [self-employed starting price]. You get the price before Iris begins.
Why Clearwater clients choose a mobile tax professional
- No waiting room. Iris comes to your home or business at the time you choose, Monday to Saturday from 8 to 6.
- One person, start to finish. The same woman-owned business answers the phone, prepares the work and handles follow-up questions.
- Explained in your language. Every result is explained in plain English or Spanish, so you know exactly what you signed.
- A price before work begins. You hear the cost up front, with no surprise fees at the end.
- Your documents stay with you. Iris scans what she needs at your table, works on an encrypted laptop and hands your originals back before she leaves.

Questions people ask before they call
I didn't keep receipts. Can I still deduct expenses?
Often, yes. Bank and card statements, app reports and invoices can rebuild most expenses. Iris helps you document what you can support and leave out what you can't.
Do I have to file if I made only a little self-employment income?
If your net self-employment earnings are $400 or more, you generally must file and pay self-employment tax, even if you owe no income tax.
Should I form an LLC?
An LLC is a legal decision first and a tax decision second. A single-member LLC is taxed like a sole proprietor unless it elects otherwise. Iris can show you the tax side; talk to an attorney about liability.
Can you set up my quarterly payments?
Yes. Iris calculates the amounts and gives you the due dates. You can pay through your IRS online account or IRS Direct Pay.
I drive for two apps and have a W-2 job. Is that complicated?
It's common. Iris combines the W-2 and both apps on one return and adjusts your withholding or estimates so you don't owe a big balance next year.
