Deadline coming and you're not ready?
Tax Extension Filing in Clearwater Before the Deadline
Missing documents, a late K-1, or simply too much going on? An extension buys you time to file correctly, but not time to pay. Iris files your extension and estimates what to pay now so penalties stay low. Call 678-614-4636 before the deadline.
Hablamos español. Monday to Saturday, 8 to 6.

What an extension does and doesn't do
- It does give individuals until October 15 to file, and most businesses six extra months.
- It does not extend the time to pay. Tax not paid by the original deadline collects interest and a late-payment penalty.
- It does prevent the larger failure-to-file penalty if you file by the extended date.
- It does not raise audit risk. Millions of people extend every year.
A typical example
An illustrative example, not a client testimonial. A Palm Harbor couple is waiting on a K-1 from a family partnership that won't arrive until summer. On April 10 they call Iris.
She uses last year's return and their pay stubs to estimate the tax, files Form 4868 electronically, and has them pay the estimated balance online the same day. When the K-1 arrives in July, she comes back and finishes the return well before October 15, with no failure-to-file penalty.
Hurricane postponements in Pinellas County
After a federally declared disaster, the IRS often postpones filing and payment deadlines for everyone in the affected counties, automatically. Pinellas County has received these postponements after past hurricanes. When one applies, you may not need an extension at all. Iris checks the current IRS disaster relief list for Florida before filing anything. Read more on our tax preparation page.
How it works
- Call 678-614-4636 before the deadline. Iris asks for last year's return and what you know about this year's income.
- She estimates your tax, files the extension electronically and tells you how much to pay now.
- You book a time to finish the full return once your documents arrive.
What it costs
Extensions are [extension price], credited toward your return when Iris prepares it.

Questions people ask before they call
What's the deadline to file an extension?
The original due date of the return, usually April 15 for individuals and March 15 for partnerships and S corporations, unless a disaster postponement applies.
Do I have to explain why I need an extension?
No. Individual and most business extensions are automatic when filed on time.
Can I pay with my extension?
Yes, and you should if you expect to owe. Paying electronically with the extension is the simplest way.
Does Florida need an extension too?
Not for individuals, because Florida has no personal income tax. Florida corporations filing Form F-1120 have their own extension.
I already missed April 15. Is it too late?
For an extension, yes, but filing as soon as possible still stops the failure-to-file penalty from growing. Call Iris.
Can you file the extension remotely?
Yes. Extensions can usually be handled by phone and secure document upload, and the full return is prepared at your home later.
Will an extension delay my refund?
If you're owed a refund, there is no penalty for filing later, but you wait longer for the money. Iris usually recommends finishing as soon as your documents arrive.
What if I can't pay what the extension estimate says?
File the extension anyway, pay what you can, and look at an IRS payment plan once the return is filed. Filing on time keeps the larger penalty away.
